Here’s a roundup of beautiful tile patterns to help calm a restless mind

With ceramics on the mind, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite tile patterns seen online in the last week. Go forth and get inspired!

There’s something extremely relaxing about a good tile pattern. Maybe it’s got to do with the inherent geometry, the repetition of pattern, or the perfection of seeing the same thing over and over again until you’re calmed into a serene sense of “ahhhhh.”

Tiles, while beautiful, are also quite functional. Glazed tiles have the benefit of being water and stain resistant, making the material extremely valuable in the kitchen or the bath. It’s also super easy to clean and fairly durable–and even if one tile happens to crack, it’s easy to replace that single piece. Albeit, tile does get a little cold in the winter months–so if you love the material as much as we do, may we suggest you also invest in some cozy slippers?

Last week, Apartment Therapy published a swoon-worthy post that detailed fifty (yes fifty) beautifully designed and inspirational bathrooms. While the bathroom is often one of the more under-appreciated rooms in a home, there are plenty of us out there who spend an extra few seconds washing our hands, just to admire the tile work or the exquisite hardware in these very functional (and often beautiful!) rooms. Here are two bathrooms with tiles that really caught our eye.

For a bit of oceanic inspiration, look no further than these curved cement tiles in soft grey. Anyone else in here feeling the mermaid vibes, or is it just us? With the light grout in between, the tile floor pops against an otherwise airy bathroom.

Next up, this colorful bathroom is serving up double tile duty–on both the walls and the floor. Pairing a floral-inspired Moroccan pattern with elegant white square tiles is the kind of mixing and matching we love to see in a smaller space like this master bath.

Speaking of white tile, here’s a beautiful subway-inspired take, courtesy of Remodelista. For as much as we love color, layering white on white is a timeless and chic design strategy in any space.

A classic floor pattern gets the modern farmhouse treatment in this beautiful kitchen seen in Elle Décor. And if you look closely, you can see some simple and muted tiles laid into an elegant backsplash. The combination helps add depth and texture to a verdant color palate.

As seen in Dwell, this sunny bathroom is such a fun pop of color in an otherwise subdued interior. The designers matched the paint to the tile so well, that upon first glance, it’s difficult to notice the ceramic peeking out over the sink. Either way, we love it!

Last and certainly not least, here’s something you might not see every day: the indoor swimming pool at Hearst Castle, courtesy of Architectural Digest. The intricacy of the tiles is absolutely mind-boggling, and we can’t help but imagine doing a few laps in such a lavish pool. A blogger can dream, right?

Phew! That was a lot of tile. We hope you're feeling a little more relaxed and a little more inspired. Perhaps, if anything, this will compel you to take a closer look at those bathroom tiles and at least admit it might be time for a little pre-spring cleaning. And if you're thinking more big picture and are planning a major renovation that includes the kitchen or the bath or both–we've got you covered. Just tell us a little bit about your project, and we'll be in touch to chat details (and maybe tile!) within a few days.
